There are many interesting places nearby UKM where international students can enjoy for unwinding.
  

​1. Bangi

Bangi is known as an academic city supported by various amenities such as shopping complexes, transportation modes, recreational area, schools and training centers, industrial park. The Tasik Cempaka is a beautiful lake with playground and jogging tracks for family outing. Bangi is also famous as a food haven where you can find various local and international delicacies. Local products and culture are best to be found at the night markets, locally known as Pasar Malam.

2. Kajang

This is the nearest town after Bangi where you can reach by bus or taxi from UKM. To go here, wait at one of the bus stops nearby your hostel. From UKM, it will pass by some Chinese Restaurants and Commuter Station (UKM Station) to Hentian Kajang. From Hentian Kajang, the bus will take you to Metro Kajang Shopping Center, Kajang Town. Around Metro Kajang you will find a lot of local shops and fast food restaurants such as McDonald, Pizza Hut, KFC and local restaurants such as Satay Kajang, Secret Recipe, Mamak’s restaurants and bakeries. From Metro Kajang, you can walk to Metro Point which is another shopping center where you can find franchise stalls and eateries like Secret Recipe, Sushi King, Kenny Rogers, Starbuck and some other shops.

 

3. Putrajaya

Putrajaya the new federal government administrative center, is a modern city which embraces the concept of an intelligent garden city and showcases the best Malaysian architectural design in an environmentally- friendly setting of beautifully landscaped lakes and parks. Places of interest in Putrajaya includes Perdana Putra, the main office of PM, Seri Perdana, the official residence of PM, Putra Mosque, Putrajaya International Convention Center, Dataran Putra, the millennium monument, Taman Botani, Taman Wetlands, Taman Warisan Pertanian, Taman Putra Perdana, Cruise Tasik Putrajaya and Alamanda Shopping Mall. You can reach Putrajaya by taxi from UKM.

The following places can be reached by a bus from UKM to the UKM commuter station where then you buy tickets to the destinations.



1. The Mines Shopping Complex, Serdang

Buy a ticket to Serdang Station. When you reach the station, walk across a bridge for a brief walk through shop lots or take a scenic boat ride to The Mines. The shopping complex offers amenities such as bowling alley, cinema and eateries. Approximate time to reach the place: 30mins (not including waiting time, etc.)



2. Mid Valley Shopping Mall

Buy a ticket to the Mid Valley Station. The shopping mall is connected to the commuter station and is adjacent to The Gardens, another shopping mall. Approximate time to reach the place: 45 mins (not including waiting time, etc.)



3. KL Sentral

Buy a ticket to KL Sentral. This is the intercity central link that connect to various transportation modes such as taxi, LCCT shuttle bus , KLIA Transit, Putra LRT, Rapid KL LRT, Monorail and train rides to other regions in Malaysia. Approximate time to reach the place: 1 hour (not including waiting time, etc.)



4. Bandar Tasik Selatan Bus Terminal
Buy a ticket to Bandar Tasik Selatan, and go to the bus terminal.  There you can buy bus tickets to the southern part of Malaysia (the states of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor). Nearby the terminal, there are also other transportation such as Rapid KL LRT, Rapid KL Buses, KLIA Transit. Approximate time to reach the place: 30mins (not including waiting time, etc.)

5. Puduraya Bus Terminal
Buy a ticket to Bandar Tasik Selatan, then find the Rapid KL LRT. From the LRT station, buy a ticket to Plaza Rakyat Station. From the Plaza Rakyat station, walk for a few minutes to Puduraya Bus Terminal. Here, you can buy bus tickets to the northern regions of Malaysia (Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands, Penang, Ipoh, Kedah). Approximate time to reach the place: 1hour and 15mins (not including waiting time, etc.)

Other places of interest include Suria KLCC, Sungai Wang Plaza, One Utama, Sunway Pyramid, Petaling Street, Times Square, Pavillion, Lowyat Plaza, and etc.
